I finally got a relaxer after 18 months since my last one. Regular readers will know that I was ready for a relaxer months ago but couldn’t figure out where to go to have it done. The stylist who used to do my relaxers moved to another province.
On Friday I decided enough was enough and I was going to finally get that relaxer. I decided to contact Candice from Candi & Co hair salon to see if I could get a booking for Saturday. Luckily they had space for me. I chose them because I figured a salon that specialises in natural hair is bound to apply relaxers responsibly. I will do a review of the salon in my next post.
I had the relaxer done on Saturday. The stylist used Mizani Butter Blend relaxer. This was my first time using this relaxer. Previously I used ORS Olive Oil relaxer. I asked the stylist to leave my hairline out and also to rinse and neutralise the relaxer early so my hair is left with texture. So happy that he didn’t object! The Mizani relaxer worked like a charm. My hair still has a lot of texture which is just how I like it.
My hair was then blow dried, trimmed and flat ironed. The stylist used Mizani Thermasmooth Smooth Guard as a heat protectant before blow drying and flat ironing. He then used Mizani Thermasmooth Shine Extend Anti-Humidity Spritz once he was done. My ends were very uneven and thin. The ends were then trimmed off. I had about 10 – 15cm cut off to even out the hair and to remove the thin scraggly ends. I hadn’t realised how bad it had become when I had so many textures on my head. I hadn’t trimmed my hair in about 2 years I think. I do miss my length but my hair is looking great and I love the blunt cut. Like they say – it’s just hair, it will grow back.
It’s really strange having straight hair after so long! Now that my hair is relaxed again I will be back to using my rollers and curlformers. I’m looking forward to that.
Look out for my review of Candi & Co hair salon in a couple of days.
